Nepal: Construction Update

Earthquake damage

Homes in Nuwakot are being rebuilt after last year’s devastating earthquakes in Nepal. Recent heavy rains slowed construction for a while, but progress is being made. National Program Coordinator for Hope for Nepal, Mohan Raj Bhatt, reports six houses have been completed so far. The project is funded through a grant from GlobalGiving’s Nepal Relief Fund.

In addition to the efforts of our partners, each family is participating in the construction of their home by contributing finances and labor. This, says Mohan, is something the people wanted to do. They have waited so long to rebuild, it is encouraging to take part in the building.

Hope for Nepal has also been able to provide some counseling for quake victims, who are still suffering from the psychological trauma of the quakes. The TI mental health team will visit Nepal next month to follow up with church leaders trained last year, and train a new group including health care workers.
