“Thank you so much for taking the time to show me around the very impressive house reconstruction project! It was very well managed and executed.” – Mihika, a field representative from GlobalGiving, was visiting earthquake recovery projects in Nepal.
One of the sites she visited in Nuwakot was the village “35 kilos” – so named because it is 35 kilometers from Kathmandu. In this district, where 88% of the homes had been destroyed in Nepal’s deadly 2015 earthquake, homes are now rebuilt. Mihika was checking on projects funded by GlobalGiving grants. Our partners at Hope for Nepal worked with the community to repair and rebuild homes.
The village of “35 kilos” was chosen for most of the homes, because of the destruction there and the lack of help from outside. Beneficiaries contributed their own resources to make their houses more beautiful and strong. Our mental health team provided training in basic mental health, trauma, and counseling in the area. We’re thankful for these wonderful partnerships!
