Starting Conversations…

Andre helps people in Cameroon

Andre says people always seem to back away when the topic of mental health comes up. So he takes a proactive approach. As a pastor, when he sees signs someone may be struggling he initiates a conversation.

If the person wants to talk, he listens. Sometimes people are holding grief inside, and he helps them through the grieving process. He also sees a lot of students stressed over exams. As they talk, he finds they often have problems at home which influence their performance at school. Andre has been able to train ten other people by taking them through the manual in the evenings after work.

In his community in Cameroon, Andre has been able to train ten other people by taking them through the manual in the evenings after work.

Often, just having someone with counseling skills can bridge the difference between hope and despair. By equipping informal providers like Andre, you’re making care and counseling available at the community level where people live.

As 2017 continues, the Tributaries International mental health team is equipping service providers in Myanmar, Nepal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, the United States, and Canada. These providers will use the training as they work in a variety of settings. We’re also putting together our first online training sessions.
